Okay, it finally seems to be working. There was still one page in particular that just would not reveal the template option, and I had to recreate the page from scratch. Fortunately the template options is appearing now on all the other pages, so I guess we’re fine.
To fix it I installed another theme, and then reactivated pinboard theme. Then I cleared all cache and my browsers history.
