1. Use http://www.planetmike.com/plugins/ultimate-category-excluder/ and then set the 4 posts to only one category. Exclude the rest from the front page.
2. I use the Page Links To plugin – http://txfx.net/wordpress-plugins/page-links-to/ – to have NO text. I create a post with no content, and then link to a page that has content. Conceivably your initial post could only have 2 lines.
There may be an easier way to do #2, but that’s what I’ve done.
