I am just getting back into website design/coding after 10 years and a lot has changed. I’ve been working on a website. But now have found the some users can’t view it properly if they are using old versions of Internet Explorer or I.E. Compatibility View.
I’ve found forums that recommend Conditional Comment CSS and I’ve tried it, but perhaps don’t understand how to use it properly. I don’t know how to add a stylesheet.
In I.E. Compatibility View my website’s (www.amishcraftsmenguild.com) navigation is hidden and images are no longer inline. Any recommendations to make my website look pretty in all versions of I.E.?
Please help!!!
Hi ribbit0608,
Thats excactly the way to do it: conditional comment CSS referring to a particular stylesheet and is normally placed somewhere in the header section.
The compatibility mode is a nightmare for adjustments and will bring you much more problems than only the missing navigation. Its simply outdated. After 10 years, you should update your browser 🙂
But it all can be adjusted with some reading & knowledge on websites dealing with this issues. The code will look something like this and can link to different stylesheets depending on the browser and version that is detected:
(!–[if IE 6]> <![endif]–)
But you really needs some basic knowledge about style sheets first.

Lack of compatibility of this theme with older versions of IE is intentional. It will not be made compatible at any time in the future. If you need a theme that looks good on IE7 this is not the one you’re looking for.
