Images no longer responsive

I’m really stuck here, and would really appreciate some help. I think the issue started when I played around with some image compression plugins (Smush.it and EWWW Image Optimizer), but I’m really not sure.

So what happens is the images can shrink, but not grow. If you start with a wide browser window, you can shrink it, and the images shrink too. But if you start with a skinny browser window and expand, the images stay tiny.

I also noticed a problem with another plugin called Pinterest Image Pinner from Collective Bias. When this plugin is activated, the images cannot grow OR shrink. However, I’m not sure if this was a problem before, since I only started using it maybe a week ago. I deactivated that plugin, and now the images can shrink.

However, when I’m viewing the image files on their own individual pages, they can shrink and grow just fine. Don’t know what the deal is there.

I’m really not sure what the real problem is, so I did a live preview of the Twenty Thirteen theme, and it had the same problem. This leads me to believe it has something to do with screwed up image files, rather than being Pinboard’s fault, but then again, the images work on the image file pages, which seems weird.

I know of a plugin called AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild, but I’m not sure if that’s relevant to the problem.

The other option is to reinstall from a backup. I’d only lose 1 post, and I’ve got the images and text for that one so that’s not such a big deal. But I don’t know if that’s going to solve it, so that would be a last resort. And the longer I wait, the more work I want to do and reinstalling from a backup would be increasingly annoying.

It’s really troubling to me, because I really like this particular functionality, and something totally screwed it up…I’ve deactivated or deleted the plugins that I think caused the problem, but I really don’t know what to do.

I also tried editing a post, deleting one of the images and uploading a new one, thinking maybe it’s something that would only affect older images…but that didn’t work either.
