I notice the images that I am pulling via an RSS feed don’t seem to be quite the same size as the source images coming from Tumblr, is this due to the autoblog plugin i’m using or is this a theme setting?
It’s definitely not a theme setting. The feed is handled by WordPress core. Try deactivating that plugin and see if it still happens.
