limit number of posts in featured and popular sections

Hello. First, I have already received answers to a few of my questions by looking through the forum. Great work.
My question is this:

How do I limit the number of posts in the “featured” and “popular” category to 2 each?

I found how to limit featured, but the popular category is still baffling me. any help?
