I\’d like to have categories in homepage, so that when I click on one of the images I can see all the posts of that category. Is it possibile?

Looking for the same thing but I believe it needs to be an IF statement to work correctly:
If
on home page – clicking a slide image the link takes you to the category page with a new slider.Otherwise clicking on a slider image ON a Category page performs normally and the link takes you to the individual post.
Any good PHP folks out there to help with a simple IF statement?
