change the grey background-colour

Hello,
I want to change the grey background-color of the theme “esplanade”.
I choose the desihn nature – but nothing happened.
I copied the code of nature.css into the area “custom.-css” – nothing happened.
I changed the background color of “body” in nature.css and in style.css – but nothing happened again.
