Display Most Recent Post

Hello!

I would like to add the most recent post to the home page of the Minimatica theme. My hope is to keep the current format of the page (header, photo slider, category tags). In addition, after the category tags, the most recent post would display in full. Has anyone been able to code something like this as an addition to the theme?
