I am wondering to how to STICK posts to the main page as well without having every post go on the main page….

Mostly cause I just want to show 4 pages/posts on the main page that would be for my categories… instead of the most recent blog posts… since I want the main page to be more static….

I already tried to STICK the post but that didnt change the order on the main page or limit it to just 4 posts/pages….

    Anyone have any ideas???

This is a very important question to me as well. Does someone know what I need to add or change in the CSS in order to do this?

    Thanks!

By default, the slider shows the most recent posts, and is updated every time a new post is made. I wanted it to remain static and link to pages – like a fancy menu.

The trick is to allow it to show Posts still, but only posts from a specific category. You make four posts, using the timestamp to determine their order on the slider, and make sure they are the only posts in that category. Then you tell each of those posts to redirect to the Page that you really want to show. This is all done with the help of a couple of plugins.

In Posts>Categories create a new post category (name it something obvious just for your front page, so you won’t accidentally use it elsewhere)
Install the Frontpage Manager plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/frontpage-category-filter/).
In Settings>Frontpage Manager, set the frontpage to only show posts from your special category.
Install the Page Links To plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-links-to/).
Create the Pages you want your users to see. Do whatever you want, no special considerations here. But make a note of the url.
Create the Posts for your front page. Your users will never actually see this post; the image and text will appear on the slider, but NOT on the final Page where the user ends up.

Put a short and sweet text description.
Add an image (landscape format works best in the slider) but make it a featured image.
Set the post category to the special category you made earlier. This will make it show up on the frontpage slider.
Finally, thanks to the Page Links To plugin, there is a new box labelled ‘Page Links To’. In here put the url of the Page that you want your users to see instead of the Post you are writing.

OK, so now your blog page is acting like a fancy menu instead of a blog. But what if you still want traditional blog posts too?

Make a new Category called (for example) ‘Blog’.

Make a Menu item that links to the ‘Blog’ Category.

When users click that your menu item, they get taken to a normal blog page with all Posts in the ‘Blog’ Category. Just remember, whenever you make a new post, put in in the ‘Blog’ category (you can put it in other categories as well, but if it’s not in the ‘Blog’ category it won’t show on that page).

    Hello,
I am building a site for a University research department, and the site needs to comply with disability access protocol. Do you know if this theme is up to date in that regard?

Hi Daniel, I know you’re having a hard time answering all our questions. But my problem is very unique because of all the Minimatica user, I’m the only one having these One Menu problem. In my Minimatica Menu setting (Theme Locations part), it says that my theme only supports one menu. I don’t know why. I can only select one menu for primary navigation, even if I create more menus it does’nt appear in my homepage or any pages.
    Please reply. Thanks.

My website btw is http://www.360virtualtourist.com You can notice that I only have one Menu which is the Home. I created a text widget and placed it in my footer area as temporary solution to show the About, Contact, Virtual Tours menus which supposed to be the same or inline with the Home menu.

Looks like you’ve worked it out. If you’re still stuck (or for anyone else reading):

    Go to Appearance>Menus
Click the “Add Menu” tab (top of the right-hand column, next to ‘Blank Menu’. Looks like a + sign with dots underneath.
Give your new menu a name, and click “Create Menu”.
Select stuff in the left column, and click “Add to Menu” to add it to your new menu.
Drag your headings around in the right column to put them in the order you want. You can create sub-menus this way.
When you’re done, Save the menu.
To use the menu on your site, in the top box on the left column, choose the menu you want to use.

You can create lots of different menus, but only use one at a time.

@timgouldphotography thanks for replying. Yeah I’ve solved it yesterday with the help of “Woody” from other topics.
This menu guide or tutorial should be in the minimatica help guide for beginners like me πŸ™‚

Hi there. Just installed this theme and it’s perfect. By any chance does anyone know how to show a “comment” button on the home page rather than goign inside the post to actually see the coments?

This is such a handsome theme and I’m using it both for my blog subdomain and my main site. So because I was using it on both sites, I left the main site as Minimatica it’s configured. Then for the blog I just wanted one default image to click on to enter the blog area.

Anyway …. I’m afraid when I changed minimatica/scripts/kwicks.js – sticky false to sticky true, my front page slider broke not only visually, but it no longer functioned.

I’ve tried retracing my steps and it still didn’t return to its default functions. I even tried to delete the file from wp/content and that didn’t help. I’m absolutely clueless. What did I do????

I am experimenting with this theme. I like the simplicity of it. I have 5 blog posts with images. I do not see any images on the home page in the black banner. Is this feature for images from the gallery? I hope so. That is what I want. I do have several blog posts but still no images on the home page. I have the home page static.
