You can go to your WP Admin > Appearance > Editor and edit the searchform.php template. Remove the code there (save a copy somewhere if you decide to use the search again since this code aplies to the widget also).

I know this post was written over a year ago, but I’ve been looking for answers to this very question and have now finally gotten rid of the stupid search field! 🙂 I’ve found other threads discussing it where people put a blank image or text widget to cover it, but those also covered my tag line. Thanks so much for writing this for me to eventually stumble upon. 🙂

I think it doesn’t work with child themes. Is there any code to add in the custom CSS to hide the search form?
