Header Widget + Social Icons? Is it possible to have both?

I would like to add a header widget but also keep the social icons, just move them down. Is this possible? I tried moving the icons down to 180px just above the nav bar, but as soon as I add the header widget they disappear. It would be great to have both. Please advise.
