Help Getting Started

Hi!
I downloaded this theme for sciencehideout.net, and I just have a couple questions for me.

a) is there any way for me to make it so that when I click an image, it can go to a page rather than a blog post?
b) and also, can I make a ‘font background’ for my site? I like the default background, but it is hard to read stuff on. See how this site has the green background, then a grey font background? That is what I want for mine, sorta.
