On the test website it shows that you are able to do this… but i can’t work out how. Please help
KashemyParticipantIt says its a self hosted video, so I’m guessing you (in stead of linking to a picture that you uploaded) you link to the video file on your own server.
I can’t personally test it right now, but that would be my guess of a solution.
That when you’re selecting a featured image, in stead of linking to an image, you link it to the video you’ve hosted on your server.KashemyParticipantNOT the way to do it is by trying to link a youtube URL when you’re in the “select a featured image” screen. Tried that, doesn’t work π
justinemParticipantI tried doing that already. On the test website it links (and plays) to a video on vimeo. And I would like to do the same. Any suggestions?
KashemyParticipantI’ve been google’ing around a little bit, and here’s something I found which might help.

(As I said before in one of my posts) I’m not able to test anything at the moment, so you’ll have to try it yourself to see if it works.
Hope it helps!
PCChParticipantFeatured Video Plus is pretty impressive.

You can use it with self hosted videos, YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion; and it has a good set of features, including the option to use a pop out (lightbox like) player.
The biggest drawback is that, as a featured image, it is not displayed in the post without added code.
I use a plugin called Advanced Excerpt. This plugin allows what is in the post to display on the homepage, category, archives, just as it is in the post. So, in the case of Pinboard, if I have a video first thing in a post, it displays in the tile for that post.
I use a plugin called FitVids for WordPress and use css (iframe {max-width: 100%; max-height: auto;}) to make sure that the videos are well behaved and stay in their containers.
You can see the results here:
Daniel TaraKeymasterFirst of all, you need to use the video post format. Then, whether you uploaded a self-hosted video or pasted a YouTube link they should all appear instead of the featured image.
