How to add "Wide" widget area to a category page?

Hi,

Hopefully I can explain this question clearly… thank you in advance.

My Goal:
I would like the option to to add widget areas to each category page. (Most of the tuts I find during my research will help me add widgets to all individual the posts of a category, but that is not what I want to do.)

I would like to be able to assign the visibility to the overall category page. I would settle for the “Wide” widget area but I would love to be able to have all the widget areas/sidebars available.

For example:
I would like to add the “Wide” area to this category page on my site: http://atascocitaphotography.com/wedding-photography-houston-texas/

Another Perspective:
I was also wondering… Am I going about this the wrong way? Should I be setting up a page ( that would already let me select the visibility of the widgets) and then do something to call the posts up by category? I looked into this but it was calling up a (text) list of the posts and I want to keep how they are formatted “Pinterest” style as in the category pages.
