How to prevent slider image from appearing in gallery – Help

What I am trying to do is remove the slide images from the post page gallery. When I select “Featured Image” from the posting page, it automatically inserts that image into the gallery, doubling up the image. What makes it worse is that the slider images I’m using have text on them, which look great on the home slider but is not needed in the posting. I hope I’m being clear with my question.
