Hi,
Really like this theme but I am struggling with how to style my home screen to look like the theme’s live demo page.
Can someone provide the page text/template for it? Or what bits to set in the theme options?
I’m quite new to this, so thanks for any help
Daniel TaraKeymasterThe home page is created by placing static pages through the custom query widget in sidebars with custom selected number of columns. An in-depth tutorial how to recreate the demo’s home page will be published at some point.
donskifarrellParticipantThanks for the reply! Think I’ve got it now. It certainly makes it flexible.
Looking forward to the tutorial.
dsaunde1ParticipantAny idea on when the in-depth tutorial for the home page will be up? I’m also having a difficult time figuring this out.
Theme looks great, by the way.
Daniel TaraKeymasterNot very soon. First we must cover usage of the unlimited sidebars feature, the grid loop and the custom query widget in separate articles. Knowledge of this functionality is required to understand the deconstruction of the front page.
dsaunde1ParticipantOk, thanks. I have been experimenting with these features and I understand them a little better. I was able to get an image spanning the full width of the screen right below the top menu just like you have it set up on your demo home page, but I was wondering about the overlaid text (on your page, “Created with Love for Content”): where is that text coming from? Is it from a separate sidebar or query? How do you lay it over the full width image?
WebsitelesParticipant@dsaunde1: If I’m not mistaken the overlayed text is coming from the pages. Select your custom query type: ‘slider’ and then ‘multiple pages’.
@Daniel Tara: Am I correct? If so, I still cant figure out how the buttons appear. Do you use a plugin or built in shortcodes perhaps?
FYI: I have tried to insert the read more tag true the wysiwyg editor but that gave the following error:
Warning: array_key_exists() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in /public_html/wp-content/themes/enlightenment/core/admin/unlimited-sidebars.php on line 371I would like to make my slider clickable. Can see you are busy, but this also could be a ten rule tutorial, just by describing what every element in the demo is and how its set up.
e.g.
Menu = set in appearance > menu
Slider = Custom query widget set as slider of multiple pages(?). This widget is set in a custom sidebar, location: Full screen. (You can add custom sidebars true theme options and assign them to different page templates. Also you can adjust them per page, beneath the content area of the editor.)
Call-to-action = and so on and so onThis would help a lot and the more experienced wordpress user would understand 80% immediately. Hope to hear from you.
Kind regards, Nick.
Daniel TaraKeymasterThe buttons were created using the Bootstrap Shortcodes for WordPress plugin. Here’s a demo of supported shortcodes.
We’ll look into your reported bug and fix it in the next version.
robhobParticipantHi
This theme looks amazing! I’m struggling to get my head around the home page through. Any chance you could do a quick, step-by-step in point form to get me started? A YouTube video would be first prize.
Cheers
Rob
robhobParticipantJust managed to figure the slider out (well at least I think I have).
Here’s my quick guide:
1. Create a page for each slide, setting the Featured Image of each page to the required image.
2. If you want text over the image like the demo, create it in the body of each slide page. It looks like it’ll overlay whatever you do here over the slide.
3. Add a Dynamic Sidebar (Theme Options >> Sidebars tab). I called mine Slider and set the column count to 1. You don’t need to change Sidebar Locations. If you go to Widgets (Appearance >> Widgets) you’ll see you’ve create a new sidebar.
4. Go to widgets (Appearance >> Widgets) and drag a Custom Query widget into the new sidebar you’ve just created.
5. In this Custom Query, set the Type to Slider and the Query to Multiple Pages and then select the pages you created in step one. Save.
6. With your home page open in the editor, scroll to the bottom and untick Use default sidebar locations for page and choose your new sidebar from the dropdown next to Full Screen. If I understand things correctly, that’s how to get the slider going. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
robhobParticipantBTW, also getting the error message but things still work after reloading page:
Warning: array_key_exists() expects parameter 2 to be array, null given in /home/techtwal/public_html/wp-content/themes/enlightenment/core/admin/unlimited-sidebars.php on line 371Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/techtwal/public_html/wp-content/themes/enlightenment/core/admin/unlimited-sidebars.php:371) in /home/techtwal/public_html/wp-admin/post.php on line 233

Any idea when the next version is coming out. Would like to hand a stable site over to client in the next week or two.
This theme/framework rocks! Thank you guys.
wdncnuParticipant@robhob what do you mean by your point 6, “With your home page open in the editor, scroll to the bottom…”? Home page open in what editor? Where do you mean? Thanks,
