portfolio category with subcategories has no images on homepage

checked everywhere and can’t find solution.

portfolio homepage says: Content not found The content you are looking for could not be found.

all the subcategories show up as links and all those pages work fine, but how do i get images on the main portfolio page?

all the posts have 2 check marks in the categories. one for it’s own subcategory and a check mark in the main category, but this doesn’t put the images on the portfolio homepage.
