Recent Posts list showing up in header area?

I looked at your site. It took a REALLY long time to load, by the way.

Here’s a few things to get you started.

Go to “Customize”. Do this by scrolling over your site name in the upper left of your page. A menu will pop up which includes “Customize”. From there you can set your site name, tag line, the color of the text and background color.

Some of these things can also be accomplished by going to Dashboard>Appearance and either Header or Background. In the Header section you can also add a photo for your header. This is where it can get tricky as far as sizing a photo correctly if you want it to span across the entire page, which I haven’t done and I’m not the one to help you with that.

You can also select a Text Color at the bottom in the Header section.

Under Appearance>Background you change background color there as well or upload an image for your background instead of choosing a color.

I’d create a few posts with photos, assuming you want your posts to have a feature photo that is. They don’t have to be real posts with real content. Just garbage text of some sort is fine, but this will give you something to work with so you can see what your site looks like as you change settings and create the look you want.

To include photos in a post, click “Add Media” at the top left. To set the photo you want to appear on the home page with your title select “Set Feature Image”. It is a blue link in the left sidebar.

Then go to Dashboard>Appearance>Theme Options. This is where you configure settings that apply specifically to the Pinboard theme. Start by clicking on Layout at the top of the page and choosing your preferred layout. There are 6 boxes at the top of the screen with varied options. I don’t know what it looks like when you look at yours, but mine are actually blank. I don’t know why, but I do know that when I scroll over them phrases pop up to describe what each one is and clicking on them changes the layout of my home page. So choose if you want a side bar, if you want it on the left or the right, if you want a wide side bar that takes up half the page, etc. If you choose one with a wide side bar, your columns will be narrower.

You can mess with each one and look at your home page to see what it looks like.

Below that you choose how many columns you want, with the sidebar counting for one of the columns.

You can continue reading through all the options under heading heading in Theme Options to configure things specifically related to Pinboard.

I’m sure that’s plenty to get you started and I hope I didn’t overwhelm you.

Just know that most of us muddle through this and have to figure it out a little at a time. It can be intimidating and take some time to achieve the results we want, but the more you mess with settings and ask questions, you begin to understand how things work. I’ve learned a lot by trial and error. If I didn’t know what a setting meant, I’d sometimes click it and see what it did.
