Wondering how I can make the sidebar wider to expand the widgets I have placed there. My recent tweets and other widgets seem “squished” and don’t extend all the way to the right margin. Any ideas?

Are you using 4 columns? If not – then the 3 column design layout should be fine – it allows for the largest size Adsense ads (300 px) with proper spacing all around – everything fits.

Thanks for the reply, bcr8tive. I’ve actually tried it several different ways in the past couple of days.

4 column with the widgets in the top sidebar seems to be the only way that I can get it to work, since I’m also using the boxes across the top (just under the slider). When I try to reduce to 3 columns, it moves the top sidebar widgets to the bottom left (strange).

If I move those widgets to the “Right Sidebar” area, and use 4 column, the widgets become squished. Switching to 3 column with the same arrangement just pulls the squished column more towards the middle of the page rather than expand the three columns equally.

I think I’ve found a fix for now by using 4 columns, although I’d like to be able to reduce to 3 if possible.

    Thanks for the help.

I’d have to see those widgets IN the column and set to 3 to be able to help you figure out why, as you say, they’re ‘squishing’ or ‘pulls the squished column more towards the middle of the page’ –

I use Firebug to isolate coding issues – it’s a free add on for Firefox…

You can see an example of all working widgets on a 3 column setup on my site –

Cool site! Thanks for the help. For your third column, are you placing those widgets along the right side (your word cloud, ads, etc) in the Sidebar Top area? Sidebar right?

Also, wondering how you have the social icons in color across the top?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi – thanks – and you’re welcome.

Yes the widget section I use as a default is called “sidebar top” & I noticed through testing, if you put any widgets in the ‘header’ the social media icons and search do not display – you can have different side bars/ with different widgets depending on the page formats you choose and use –

My SMM icons are colored because I edited and replaced them through FTP –
