How to limit gallery pictures to width of browser

First, let me say how much I really like this theme, and this from a person who doesn’t understand Pinterest. But the infinite scroll is a great way to keep old posts alive and the multi-column format, featured image and post snippet can present many posts in limited space. So thanks very much for making this theme available.

I do have a question, however, regarding the width of gallery images. Like many others, I can’t get the JetPack Carousel gallery to work even after commenting out the Pinboard gallery, but honestly, I prefer the Pinboard gallery. There’s only one problem: if the gallery encounters an image wider than the width of the browser window, it doesn’t scale the image to fit or crop within the confines of the window. And consequently, the navigation and close buttons are outside the edges of the window. Is there some sort of shortcode or custom field I can set to tell the gallery to either scale or crop?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

By the way, I am solving the problem by simply restricting the width of the images I use, but I have some high resolution photographs I’d like to show off.

    Hi petkusj,

isn’t this a contradiction in what you’re looking for?? A gallery that scales high res images to a smaller size and at the same time you you would like to show off high res images??

Anyway, what you probably need is a different gallery viewer. In the theme you can choose some preinstalled ones in the settings. There are many others out there as I use FancyBox on my blog which is able adapt to the actual screen size.

Well, JetPack Carousel scales the images appropriately and still gives a link to view the full size image, but I just want people to be able to see a larger image if they enlarge their browser window.

And I was unaware of picking different galleries in the theme. Is that under theme options?

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

Alexander, I installed FancyBox and it works great. Thanks for the suggestion.

Still though, it might be a consideration for future updates of this theme that the gallery feature restrict the width of images to no more than the width of the browser window.

But for now, FancyBox does quite nicely.

Alexander, could you confirm which FancyBox plugin you use? The only one that works for me is the simply named FancyBox. All the others have the double image problem, where sometimes the Pinboard gallery image is on top of the FancyBox image, and sometimes the other way.

    Thanks,

    Jennifer

I feel so stupid. I swear I looked a thousand times in the Theme options and never noticed Open image links in a lightbox

Once I unchecked that, no double-posts.
