Post Gallery Grid: How to choose what image shows as thumbnail?

    I have customized the functions.php and style.css to have the gallery grid thumbnails link to the post (not the image attachment) and now I want to be able to choose which image is shown as the thumbnail on the gallery post grid. I have set the feature image for each post and that did not work. Please help!
