White screen when loading home page

    Hi everyone,

Just starting to try and use Pinboard. Working on this site:
    http://www.producciones.besaccia.com

We’re trying to have the front page display the slider and the posts, and the other pages display static content. We notice the Pinboard demo works that way, the front page is called “home” and you can go back to it.

Now, to go back to the home page one can’t have the reading settings say “front page displays your latest posts”. If things are done this way, one can’t go back to that page once one’s left it. Or so it seems to us.

So after trying different ways we’ve set the front page to display “a static page”, left the next “front page” box unselected, and selected “inicio” (home) as our posts page.
This way it seems to work like the demo, but the screen goes all completely white when going back to that tab. This does not happen in the demo (the screen going fully white when hitting the “home” tab, overriding the background color, header and tabs.

¿How have you programmed the demo exactly, to get such clean functionality and be able to go back to the “home” page with the posts and the slider?

We’d be most grateful for any help.

This appears to be a permalinks problem. Make sure the .htaccess file in the root folder is writable and try saving your permalinks twice.

Checked that but the situation didn’t improve.
It would be great to know just how the demo is structured in terms of front page preferences (latest posts, static page or posts page).
I tried building a test site that just has the latest posts up front but even then I get the white screen sometimes…

I have just double-checked your page and the problem you’re talking about doesn’t occur to me.

    Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your answers. I’ve considered them both and studied the situation. It now does not seem to happen in Chrome or Windows Internet Explorer. It does, however, persist in Safari once in a while, though not always. A pity, since so many aesthetically discerning people browse in Safari.

What keeps me wondering is that the Pinboard demo seems to run so perfectly in Safari and any other explorer too. I would just love to know how the demo is programmed, that is, what the Reading Settings are in the demo:

My settings say “Your front page displays… A static page”, then for front page nothing is selected (still says “select”) and for posts page my Home page is selected (“Inicio”). It seems a bit less than clean to do it this way but it’s what I did to get the slider to appear every time one goes back to “home” (just like in the demo).

In fact after I started to get the white screen I created a new blog which also tried to keep the slider appearing every time one goes back “home”, like in the demo, but much simpler. No matter how simple I’ve made the structure, finding the slider every time the user goes back “home” gives me the white screen problem.

And I like the theme so much! I’d like to use it in several sites.

As I said, the white screen problem persists in Safari, not in other browsers. But the demo is always impeccable in Safari too.

It would be great to know how the Reading Settings are set in the demo.

I don’t believe your issue has anything to do with the theme but rather with an incompatible plugin, probably one that generates PHP or JavaScript errors. Check your server’s error logs and your browser’s error console.
